Melgisorb highly absorbent calcium alginate dressing absorbs moderate to large amounts of exudate and forms a gel that provides a moist environment conductive to wound healing. It absorbs up-to 18 times its own weight. Melgisorb is made of soft alginate fibers formed into a nonwoven material.
Melgisorb does not adhere to moist wound sites and minimizes trauma and pain. It is highly absorbent and minimizes the risk of maceration.
When absorbing, the alginate fibers form a soft moist gel. The gel blocks lateral wicking of exudate thereby reducing maceration. The soft moist gel does not adhere to the wound site, thereby reducing trauma and pain during wear and dressing change. The gel can be easily removed by irrigating with normal saline.
Melgisorb can be used for a wide range of moderately to heavily exudating partial to full thickness wounds such as pressure sores, venous and arterial ulcers, diabetic ulcers, donor sites, and post-operative wounds. Dermal lesion and other wounds inflicted by trauma infected wounds should be evaluated on a regular basis and treated appropriately.
Melgisorb has a 1-3 day change rate.
Please note that Melgisorb is not indicated for dry wounds, third degree burns or surgical implantations.
